Self-Expanding Bentonite Mat
The bentonite mat ANELTEC is an effective membrane that contributes to structural waterproofing. It has excellent mechanical properties thanks to the use of resistant geotextiles during the production process.

Application of the bentonite mat: the product is used for the insulation of: horizontal foundations, vertical walls, various concrete structures.
The product is a self-expanding geocomposite mat, characterized by a high swelling capacity.
The Bentonite Mat is a waterproofing product containing sodium bentonite, used to waterproof foundations, concrete structures, and underground areas in general that are in contact with the ground and exposed to the risk of water infiltration (basements, garages, warehouses, vaults, underpasses, tunnels).
Like the bentonite joint, which is usually used in synergy with this product, bentonite mats are applied at the time of concrete pouring, during the construction process.
The bentonite mat is composed of two layers of geotextile fabric sewn together, enclosing a uniform layer of natural sodium bentonite.

The bentonite geocomposite mats are normally composed of three components: a top geotextile layer, bentonite powder, and a base geotextile layer.
Typically, the bentonite mat consists of a nonwoven fabric layer and a woven geotextile on the opposite side. All layers are mechanically bonded over their entire surface by needle punching and are uniformly filled with bentonite granules.
This ensures that the bentonite is optimally incorporated and prevents material loss during transport and installation.
The main component of this product is mineral sodium bentonite: only high-quality bentonite is used in the production of our bentonite mat. The sealing properties of our bentonite mat are largely determined by the quality of the bentonite used.
The excellent swelling capacity of bentonite upon contact with moisture is responsible for the rapid and reliable sealing effect of the ANELTEC bentonite geocomposite.
When correctly dimensioned, bentonite mats can also be installed on slopes. The mechanical needle punching of the components over the entire surface of the mat creates a strong bond.
Applications of the bentonite mat:
Our bentonite mats are efficient waterproofing and insulation materials that provide impermeability to protect soils, subgrades, and structures in many civil, geotechnical, and environmental applications, including:
- Tunnel linings
- Landfill linings
- Sealing of reservoirs and earth dams
- Sealing of pipelines, storage facilities for petroleum products, etc.
- Waterproofing of foundation walls and underground structures, bridge abutments, and other masonry structures
- Sealing of road and railway subgrades in protected areas
Bentonite mats also offer a more economical and less labor-intensive alternative to traditional clay barriers.
Installation:
The bentonite mat is quick and easy to install. The ground on which installation takes place must be sufficiently compacted, levelled, and free of debris, roots, sharp rocks, ice, and standing water. The mat must be laid with overlaps of 15 to 23 cm. It is recommended to place a continuous layer of bentonite granules at 0.4 kg/mยฒ in the overlap area. The edges of the mat must be flattened, without folds. Remove any folds at the edges. The upper edge of the mat must be anchored. After installation, cover the mat with a minimum of 30 cm of soil or aggregate layer. The cover material must be free of sharp rocks.
